Sorry It's Been So Long

more...Yes its been a while and I would like to apologise for some what putting the blog on the back burner. Life has gone a little crazy since I last added a blog so let me start by trying to break down some of the big event that have happened.

April- I Accepted the Position of Head PGA Professional @ The Hirsel Gc and set about opening accounts and setting up the shop.
We are now under the buying group Foremost which has been superb and we have also kept the shop consistency in staff with Russell Tait working 2-3days per week still.

May- Busiest ever month getting deliveries every day for the shop while fitting in a very busy teaching and fitting diary, but the long hours were certainly worth it and thank you all for your support.

June and July- very similar patter long hours and busy in the shop and on the practice ground and also delighted to finally get our covered bays on the range finished during this period.

August- What a month!! it started with an invite to play in the EuroPro Event at Close House thanks too Lookers, I played solid all week but my shortgame simply wasn't good enough and I missed the cut with 76,77.
However it certainly warmed me up for the following week where a -5 total gave me 3rd place and the largest cheque of my professional career at Deer PARK. Sadly due to work commitments and best man duties I've been unable to play again since then.

September- This saw me get to see baby Wood for second time during our 20week scan and hopefully see another golfer added to the family.
Also during September along with 4 other PGA Professional we set up Borders Golf Development to help develop and guide young Borders Golfers on the correct path.

Once again sorry for the delay and I promise to update more often.

But for now happy golfing and remember golf is much more fun and enjoyable when your playing well.

Happy New Year and Best Wishes For Your 2016 Season.

more...Monday 4th January 2016 and its back to normality after the hustle and bustle of Christmas and New Year, I hope everyone has had a great time with friends and family but we are all now feeling motivated and ready to make 2016 a great one.

For myself I will be looking to open up regular teaching days every week throughout the year which will hopefully be the same days every week and also my usual 5-9pm evening sessions to.

The same packages will run in 2016 with individual and group sessions continuing on the range and on course lessons.

There will be a re-shake in junior programs at The Hirsel with lots of new sessions being introduced as well as sessions being delivered in the primary school and after school clubs. Please watch out for notices on these from next month, Also Like my Daniel Wood Golf Facebook page to keep up to date with latest news.

The clubs sheltered bays at the foot of the driving range will also be in use this year which will not only offer a dry place to practice but it will also give use a much improved length of practice area.

I have also recently invested in SkyTrak Launch Monitor and Simulator which i plan to run some exciting fun challenges with during evenings and poor periods of weather.

So 2016 looks set to be a busy one but for now its time for me to get planning and keeping my fingers crossed the weather improves soon.

Take care and happy golfing everyone.

P&H Tournament @ Renaissance Golf Club

more...Well it was May and finally time to play my 2nd event of the year, which was the P&H Championship at Renaissance Gc in East Lothian.

Check out an earlier YouTube Vlog i did with Andy Carter PGA-
(please subscribe for more great content)

I really enjoyed the lay out at Renaissance and despite hitting the really solid 36putts on the first day ended in a rather frustrated 77 in the first round, Missing the cut was likely so i thought i go out and enjoy the next day and after 7 pars to start with then a 3putt on the 8th and a shank on the 9th it looked likely of an early bath! However i then played the next 7holes in 5under par and carded a 70 to make the cut by one, Delighted!!

The last round was much the same as day one, solid long game and 37putts this time, very frustrating but a cut made and finished T5th Club Professional and 40th overall. Thanks again to P&H, Renaissance GC and Scottish PGA for great event.

Since then i have done some hard work on my putting and spending more time on the practice green and shop floor working on stroke and tempo via an app on my iphone recommended by European Tour Player David Drysdale to me few weeks back.

Will report back soon

May 2015 Update

more...Good Day Folks.

Sorry for the delay in posts its been a rather busy period of teaching, playing, practicing, editing youtube videos and setting up new teach bases.

I am now a ClubGolf Roving Pro and will now be delivering junior golf sessions at a few new locations through 2015, not to forget the June Monday nights at the Hirsel and the summer camp in July.

Work is also well under way on our 2 bay sheltered bays at the foot of the practice ground which is very exciting and will add another great service to The Hirsel Golf Cluub.

I recently pre qualified at Creif Gc for the Scottish PGA and shot 71 to finish T6th, playing very solid golf without really excelling. I then progressed to the 72hole Scottish PGA Event at Gleneagles which was a bit of a nightmare weather wise and we only got 36holes completed, 76,75 was very disappointing as i hit the ball lovely but 73 putts over 36holes will simply not get it done.

Ive a very busy teaching diary now throughout May but look forward to getting a few practice session in myself to try and prepare for my next event at Renaissance at the end of the month.

Thanks again for reading my updates and stay tuned for more to come...

Question & Answers With Daniel.

What was your route to turning Professional and when did you turn Professional?

Leaving school at 17 I undertook a Golf Management Degree at The University of Central Lancashire, after successfully completing the 3 year course I took the job of assistant at Eyemouth GC and turned professional in 2009.

Favourite Scottish Course You've Played?

Last year I played The Old Course at St Andrews for the first time which was very special and great experience especially the last 2holes, however I would have to say Kingsbarns was my favourite course I've played in Scotland, however I am due to play Carnoustie soon and I feel it may challenge it.

How Many Hole in Ones have you had?

I've had 3 in total, 2 as an amateur and 1 as a professional.

Strongest and Weakest Parts of Your Game?
Strongest- it would have to be my driving, I generally keep the ball in play a lot and feel confident standing on most tee boxes with driver in my hand.
Weakest- my putting has always been the weakest part of my game, although I do have streaky hot spells the putter is often very cold and certainly an area I need too focus on.

Season Coming To A Close...

more...Daniel Teaching
By far the busiest teaching summer of my life with lots of repeat and new golfers coming to me for help and advice on their own game. Remember taking the lesson is just the first step its then up to you to put the changes into practice and utilize them on the golf course.

This year has seen a big rise in beginner lesson and helping new players push towards handicap levels, which has seen the clubs membership and competition increase, which is current circumstances is a great achievement.

My own golf has been poor this year with limited starts and lack of decent scores, mainly due to the lack of practice and attentions to my own game, but i cant complain as being so busy with teaching has been a pleasure and very rewarding this summer.

My final event of the year is a 2-day event in Dumfries (Kerr Investment), hopefully i can manage to put some scores together and finish the year playing wise on a high.

June/July Update

more...Its been really busy few weeks with lots going on at the club and the great run of weather has brought the golfers out onto the course in there dozens.

I've been unbelievably busy with lessons lately with new clients and returning clients taking advantage of the 3 x 45min Lessons for £50.00.

Ladies Group Sessions have been running as-well with all sessions been well attended so far for putting, driving and chipping.

I've played a very limited amount of golf myself but last week played in Bruce Lunn's Captain's Day at The Hirsel and had great game shooting 68 but sadly 35 putts is the story of my game.

My next event is a 36hole event at the Duddington at the end of July, so i hope to get some time to practice and get my own game ready before then.

That's all for now, but remember and keep swing within your capabilities.

May Update

more...untitledMay has been all go with lots of shop hours, playing and teaching, despite struggling a little health wise its been very rewarding to help so many people with their game and also play some decent golf myself.

I played in the Scottish PGA Championship at Gleneagles this month and shot rounds of 74,74 to sadly miss the cut by 2 strokes. The cut was very low this year and i was disappointed to miss the cut but on the whole played very solid. The par 5s and longer par 4s really let me down this week so the following few weeks i set out to try and work on my long irons.

My next event was the Northern Open Qualifier at Downfield Gc, I opened with 4 straight bogeys however then played the rest of the course in -3 to finish T13th and qualify to play in the Northern Open at Murcur in June.

Over the coming few weeks i will continue to work on my posture which is helping me to get over the ball more and has certainly improved the quality of strikes on my long irons, as well as trying to keep my short game a tight as possible by working of the flight and trajectory of my pitching.

This month has seen lots of playing lessons which have been a great way of my getting a full playing analysis of each player and it also has help players save many shots by thinking a little differently and approaching holes in a different manor to their normal routine.

Tournament Update - April 2014

dw backswing

Well my season has now officially started and I've played my first two competitive tournaments of the season, and in keeping with the Scottish weather I managed to get burnt during one round and then the following day had the waterproofs and woolly hat on.

On Wednesday 23rd of April I played at Crief GC in the Scottish PGA Championship Qualifier, there was 18 spots available on the day. I played really solid and never put myself into much trouble but failed to take advantage of the par 5s on the front 9, however a birdie on the 15th gave me some breathing space and steered my way home from there to shoot level par 71 (2birdies,2bogeys) and qualify in 9th place and progress onto the Scottish PGA Championships at Gleneagles starting on 5th May.

The following week I travelled over to play the Order of Merit Event at Dundonald which was brilliantly run and sponsored by P&H.

Round 1- 76- I really played solid all day but 2 x 3putts and a ball in the water on 18th took the shine of the round and left me lots to do to make the cut. That night I spent 2hours hitting balls trying to work on my game and build confidence for round 2.

Round 2- 72- I hit 15 greens and really if the putter had been warmer it could have been really good round, all day I kept the ball in play and gave myself lots of chances. The cut came at +4 and after a 4hour wait I was delighted to make the cut and get through to pay day.

Round 3- 78- Very poor short game, I had 4 x 3putts where I really struggled to judge pace and break leaving myself to much work to do, I did manage to recover the round with birdies at 11th and 12th but decided to attack the par 5 14th which ended in a defeat to a gorse bush and a 7 was the end result which took the shine of a great week.

All in all its been great to get out compete-ting again and my game doesn't feel to far away but some work on my game from inside 120 yards is key and learn to stop throwing shots away if I'm to do well at Gleneagles next week.
